Biochar

Biochar is a valuable natural product. We produce it during the heating season in our PyroHeat P30 pyrolysis plant on Schüssinsel in Biel. We use certified pellets from the region as raw material. Organic biochar (EBC AgroBio) can currently be purchased directly from us for CHF 1 per liter. This helps us finance the additional heating material required for production.

Organic biochar made from untreated regional forest waste wood is suitable for use as animal feed and for compost, soil substrates, and stable bedding.

Applications:

Biochar supplementation for animals

  • at intervals: 10 days feeding / 5 days break / 10 days
  • Dosage: Cattle: 20–150 g/day / Pigs: 1/2 kg/100 kg feed / Poultry: 1% feed weight / Horses: 100 g/100 kg feed

Soil improvement

  • Manure/bedding: Treat manure when stacking or bedding for animals per 10–20 cm layer. Add 20–50 kg of biochar per m3.
  • Compost/garden/flower beds: Add 10–30% by volume. Add regularly or mix in at least 6 weeks before application
  • Fields: The easiest way to apply biochar is via farmyard manure (slurry, manure).
  • Horticulture: Suitable as a peat substitute. Stores many times its own weight in water, loosens compacted soils, high structural stability, resistant to microbial decay, better soil aeration, free of seeds and pathogens.

BUY ORGANIC BIOCHAR

Biochar in compost or manure absorbs nutrients. When then spread in the garden, it builds up humus and promotes soil fertility.

ORGANIC BIOCHAR IN THE HOME GARDEN

Finely ground or crushed biochar can be used as a coloring agent in cooking and baking. Organic biochar is food-safe and completely tasteless. When cows are fed up to 100 g of biochar per day, farmers experience demonstrably lower veterinary costs. In humans, too, biochar is said to help the body detoxify waste and toxins, promote intestinal health, and even help with skin problems.
